GOD, WHO ARE YOU?
We’re going to begin by asking God to reveal more of Himself to us. Who is He? What is His character? We will not come close to answering this question in seven days; we can’t even fully answer this question with a lifetime of study. He’s far more than what we’ll see in these five passages in scripture. These are a starting point of Who God is.
It is so important to God that we understand Who He is, that He sent Jesus, His Son, from being with Him in heaven to walking and living alongside people on earth. It couldn’t have cost God anymore to reveal to us who He is. He was willing to send His Son so that we could know Him. Jesus came so He could reveal to man who God is.
Read John 1
Much is happening in this chapter. Before Jesus comes, God sends John the Baptist to begin telling people that Jesus is coming. John the Baptist is building excitement and expectation for who is coming: the One who will reveal God to us. In the NLT, John 1:18 says:
“No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is Himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.”
If you’re desperate to know who God is, know that He feels just as strongly about revealing Himself to you.
It matters to God that we surrender to Him, worship Him, and submit to Him because of who we believe He is. He’s a relational God, and in true relationships, people know each other. God fully knows You. He wants you to fully know Him as well.
Before we begin our study, let’s begin with what you already know about His Character.
How would you describe God’s character?
Is there a part of His character you find Yourself most drawn to?
Is there a part of His Character you would like to know more about?
End today by praying that God would reveal Himself to you in the ways you need most. Thank Him for the parts of His character you have seen the most evident in your life. Ask Him to make one part of His character more known to You.
