GOD, WHAT DO YOU PROMISE ME? | GOD PROMISES TO GUIDE US

When we began our devotional last week, we said we were going to ask God to form us more than inform us. We acknowledged that our prayers sometimes become dominated by a list of answers we want God to give us, more than a desire to know more about who He is. But if we pray more to learn about who God is, what do we do when we actually need guidance from Him? Does God want to lead us, or does He just want us to love Him? God does want us to love Him because we know Him, but He also promises to guide us.

Read Psalm 119:97-112

The Psalmist has found guidance by meditating on and obeying God’s Word. He has found God’s commands to be sweet to the taste, a light to his path, and the joy of his heart. His saturation in the word of God is allowing him to feel guided, not like someone who is always guessing. I have experienced the same sweetness year after year of structuring my life around God’s Commands. My mind has been transformed to prefer God’s ways; my heart has been transformed to rejoice in denying myself as I surrender to God; my time has been ordered to honor the Sabbath; my finances have been aligned with bringing tithe and then giving generously; and my closest friendships are unified around our love for the Lord. God’s promise to guide me as I grow closer to Him has been proven true in every season of my life. When my mind, heart, home, and relationships are aligned with the Lord, He is so faithful to provide the guidance I need in all things, whether in my daily choices or biggest decisions.

God is so good to want to walk alongside us each day, not just rescue us in the crisis. He wants a daily relationship with us, guiding us along day by day.
