Scripture
" David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, “How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?” He was not willing to take the ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household. Now King David was told, “The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing."
2 Samuel 6:9 -12
Observation
The presence of God was so powerful that wherever the ark remained, God's blessing followed. Obed-Edom welcomed God's presence into his home, and his entire household experienced the favor of God. When we build our homes on God's Word and practice His love, we create an environment where His presence is welcomed and His blessing follows. We position ourselves and our families for spiritual growth when we prioritize God's presence. Our homes become places where God's presence rests, is valued, and passed on to future generations.
Application
God's blessing on Obed-Edom's household did not just happen by accident.
It came because God's presence was welcomed and honored. The same principle applies to our homes today. Consider the spiritual atmosphere of your home. Are there distractions, habits, or priorities that compete for God's rightful place in your life or your home? This week, take one practical step to prioritize or protect God's presence in your home. The way you welcome, prioritize, and steward God's presence today will shape the spiritual legacy you leave for generations to come.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your presence and for the blessing that comes from walking closely with You. Help me to welcome You into every area of my life and home. Teach me to build my life on Your Word and to prioritize time with You. May my home be a place where Your presence is honored and where future generations come to know and follow You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
