“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Colossians 4:2-6

Ask
What superpower would you want to have if you could choose any?
Say
All of those powers are so fun. Today, we’re reading a scripture that teaches us that prayer leads to power! Just like superheroes use their powers to save people, we when we pray, God gives us power. Why does He give us power? So that we can share Jesus with others! Paul, someone who told a lot of people about Jesus, wrote this. He asked his friends in the church to pray for Him.
Ask
Why do you think Paul asked other people to pray for him as He told people about Jesus?
Say
Paul needed courage to talk about Jesus with others. Paul also needed God to show him people who needed to hear about Jesus.
Ask
When you think about telling a friend about Jesus, how does that feel? How could praying for courage help us all?
Pray
Take some time to pray for courage and ask Jesus who He wants you to talk to about Him in the next two days. As a family, commit to having those conversations with others and discuss how it went at a dinner time.
For Everyone:

What stands out to you as the main theme of this passage?

In Mathew 28:19, Jesus encourages ALL of us to tell others about Jesus and make disciples. Many times, talking about our faith with others can feel daunting. That’s why prayer is an essential part of our ability to share the Good News about Jesus with others. Prayer is how we prepare to be open about our faith.
Ask
Why does Paul request prayer? How could those prayers shape the outcome of Paul’s effort to share the Good News about Jesus with others?
Say
Through prayer, God equips us with courage to talk to others about Jesus. He can also highlight people who we are called to share our faith with.
Ask
Do you have any fears around sharing your faith with someone else? If so, share them. What might God be saying to you about those fears?
Pray
