Scripture

" Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27

Observation

The foundation on which you build your life matters! Building your life on anything but Jesus is them same as the foolish man who built his house on sand. When the storms of life come, your foundation will crumble. Building your life on Jesus gives you a solid foundation that allows you to overcome the storms and come out stronger on the other side! Jesus never promised that life would be easy. Both houses were hit by the storm. The difference was the foundation of each house.

Application

What does it look like to build your life on Jesus? Scripture is a great tool to help us keep Jesus as the foundation. As Jesus said in the verse, the wise are the ones who hear HIS word and put it into practice. Reading scripture is not enough. It must also be applied to our lives. You can practice this by using the SOAP method to read scripture. SOAP stands for scripture, observation, application, and prayer. For the next week, read a scripture each morning and then write down what your observation is, think about how it can apply to your life, and then finish in prayer!

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for being my rock. Even through the troubles of life, you stay with me and hold me steady. Help me to set my foundation on you as we navigate through life. Give me wisdom and guidance in understanding and living out your word. Amen!
