Week 3 - Believe for Breakthrough | Day 17 - Emotional Breakthrough

SCRIPTURE -  Psalm 34:18

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

OBSERVATION

David writes this psalm in the middle of a painful and confusing betrayal. The king he faithfully served, the very king God had called him to serve, is now trying to kill him. Yet, instead of letting his emotions and distress push him away from God, David allows them to draw him closer.

In the midst of his pain, David worships. He paints a picture of God's love, care, and steadfastness—more intense and passionate than the enemies who are trying to bring him down. David knows that even in his deepest distress, confusion, and heartache, God is near. In fact, God is especially close to those whose hearts are broken.

APPLICATION

God cares deeply about our feelings—after all, He created them, and each emotion has a positive purpose. But often, in the midst of distress, we can become overwhelmed by our emotions and allow them to push us away from God, rather than drawing us closer to Him.

When we bring our brokenness and distress—whether it's sadness, anger, fear, or anything else—before God, we invite His presence into our pain. In doing so, we experience the closeness of a God who not only understands but deeply cares about our feelings. It's this intimacy with God that paves the way for emotional breakthrough, where our brokenness no longer defines us or determines our destiny.

PRAYER

Is your heart heavy today? Are you feeling worn down by life’s struggles, weighed down by a distress that feels like it’s crushing your spirit? Whether it's loss, pressure, or pain, it’s easy to let that hurt push you away from God. But He doesn’t want you to carry that weight alone. Instead of letting your distress create distance, bring it to God. He is near to the brokenhearted, and He longs to restore you. When we choose to turn to Him with our brokenness, we allow Him to make us whole again and breathe life into our spirits.

"God, thank you for being close to the brokenhearted. I choose to bring my heaviness and brokenness to you instead of allowing it to create distance between us. I trust in your faithfulness and love even in the middle of my distress, and I will not be a victim of my circumstances. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Lord I thank You for Your compassion, Your comfort that You give me each day but more so in my most toughest times! You take my broken pieces and mold them into something beautiful! These wounds are a story You have used and will continue to use for Your glory. Thank You for healing my heart, for healing my hurts, my anger and frustrations Lord. May You always come into my pain and replace it with Your joy and Your complete love. I love You Jesus.
