SCRIPTURE - DANIEL 3:16-28
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.”
OBSERVATION
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego could’ve easily kept to themselves, stayed quiet about their faith, and remained perfectly safe. It certainly would've been easier for them to simply blend in rather than disobey the king. But they didn’t choose what was easy, they chose what was right. They chose to stay faithful to God, no matter how bad things looked.
Even in the face of certain death, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had faith in God’s ability to do a miracle and save them. They didn’t stop to ask, “What if God doesn’t come through? What if He doesn’t save us?” Instead, they said, “Even if He doesn’t, we will never stop worshipping Him.” Even if God didn’t provide the miracle, He was still worthy of their worship. What a powerful response!
Because of their faith, God was with them in the fire, and His presence kept them safe from it. What King Nebuchadnezzar intended for harm, God used for His glory. He didn’t just save Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—He used their faith to make an incredible impact on the entire kingdom of Babylon.
APPLICATION
This year, there may be moments when it feels like we’re walking through fire. There may be times when we feel tempted to choose what’s safe or comfortable instead of what honors God. But when we hunger and thirst for Him, He gives us the courage to choose what’s right over what’s easy.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s faith wasn’t just in the things God could do for them; their faith was in who He is. That’s the kind of faith that withstands fire. Whether things are good or bad, whether we have everything or nothing, whether we’re at peace or under pressure—we worship the Lord no matter what. Not because of what He can do, but because He is worthy of it.
Does it feel like you’re in a fire right now? Take heart—God is with you in it. When your faith is in Him, when you hunger and thirst for His presence, you can be confident that you will never face a fire alone. His presence gives us the courage we need to stand firm, no matter what we’re walking through.
PRAYER
Today, ask God to give you the kind of faith that doesn’t bow to anything but Him. Ask Him to show you the areas of your life where He may be calling you to stand firm and choose what’s right instead of what’s easy. Pray for the courage to trust that whatever the enemy means for harm, He can use for good.
God, thank you that even when it feels like I’m in a fire, you’re with me there in it. Help me to worship you always, not just for what you can do, but for who you are. Give me the kind of faith that can withstand any fire and the courage to trust You no matter the outcome. Amen.

There's never been a fire You have left me in alone, Lord. Every trial I've faced, You have used to build and refine me -- not to destroy me. Nothing in this world or the next could ever take Your faithfulness away from me. Jesus, there is truly NOTHING You cannot do. Let the heat of the flames only reveal more of Your glory. I trust you, God.
This was so timely! Thank you Jesus that You are with us, no matter where we are at. Thank You for never leaving us when we are struggling.
Perfect song to go with the devotion.
