Jesus said to him, “I AM the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me..."
John 14:6
PRAYER FOCUS - I AM the Life
Have you ever heard someone say, “That’s life!” with a shrug of their shoulders? Usually, that means some great disappointment has just occurred, and they must just accept it and go on. However, that is definitely not what Jesus meant when He said, “I AM the life.” In fact, in John 10:10, Jesus revealed that He came to give His followers abundant life.
Life is a theme that permeates the Bible in general and John’s writings in particular. He understood that Jesus is Life, the source of life, and the fullest expression of life. During this prayer focus, we have already seen that Jesus is the resurrection and the life and that Jesus is the bread of life. In biology, you might have learned that a rock is not a living thing while a tree is living. We can know this because, like all living things, a tree grows, needs nourishment, and multiplies by reproducing itself. Abundant life in Christ also will involve growth, nourishment, and multiplication. Jesus is the Life!
RESPONSE
In Moses’ final speech to the Israelites, he said, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days…” (Deut. 30:19-20).
When you received the gift of forgiveness of all your sins, you chose life by choosing to be a Christ follower. However, we also have opportunities every day to choose abundant life. Life in the words we speak. Life in the thoughts we think. Life in our responses to situations.
Take some time today to ask God, “Where have I been missing out on the life you have for me? Am I neglecting that in my attitude, my thoughts, or my perspective?” The Holy Spirit will show you in your heart where God has more life in store for you!
