SCRIPTURE FOCUS
Jesus said to him, “I AM the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me..."
John 14:6
PRAYER FOCUS - I AM the Truth
In the Disney movie version, Pinocchio is a wooden puppet who had trouble telling the truth. Whenever he lied, his nose would grow just a little bit longer. Pinocchio desperately wanted to be a real boy, free from his puppet strings that seemed to control him. The Blue Fairy commanded him to be brave, truthful, and unselfish to reach his goal. However, Pinocchio found that he could not do this easily.
Jesus is the truth! But what is truth? Pilate asked this question of Jesus at his trial. Our culture seems to be asking this question today as well. Barna Research reported that “by a 3-to-1 margin, …adults said truth is always relative to the person and their situation” (barna.com/research). However, Jesus does not back away from His point here. He did not say He was “a” truth – one of many truths. He made the extraordinary claim that He is THE truth. Earlier in John 8:32, Jesus said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Adam and Eve listened to a lie and ate the “forbidden fruit.” As a result, all of humanity has been enslaved to sin. Like Pinocchio, we are all tied up and unable to free ourselves. Jesus came as the Truth to set us free from those chains. God has revealed Truth to us through His Son, Jesus, and through His written word. That Truth will set us free from all chains that are forged by the lies of our enemy.
RESPONSE
What are the lies that we too often have heard in our thoughts? What is the truth from God’s Word that can bring us freedom today? One way that bank tellers are trained to recognize counterfeit bills is by handling genuine money. After handling genuine currency, a counterfeit bill is glaringly obvious to them. On Day Three, we looked at Bible verses that reveal the truth about how God views us. Look back at those passages and choose another one or two to meditate on. Immerse yourself in the truth of these verses. Ask the Lord to help you recognize the lies that would keep you from walking in all the freedom that Jesus wants to give you. Embrace the truth of who you are in Christ Jesus!
