Day Twenty-One | January 28th

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

…At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father

Phillippians 2:10-11

PRAYER FOCUS - Jesus Christ is Lord

A power of attorney is a legal document that allows one individual to act on another person’s behalf. Someone who is traveling overseas might set up a power of attorney so that their affairs can be taken care of while they are gone. Most often in our culture, a power of attorney is used when an individual becomes unable to take care of their own affairs. It is a powerful transfer of authority, and most legal advisors would agree that it should be carefully considered.

In the Scripture above, Paul is speaking about the authority that is found in the name of Jesus. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me’” (Matt 28:18). Plus, He has given us permission now to use His name on His behalf. The name of Jesus is not just a phrase to be tacked on to the end of a prayer. It is a powerful declaration that we are speaking with the same authority that Jesus has. In effect, He has given us His power of attorney.

During these past weeks, we have considered the names that have been used for Jesus. Each name has revealed more of who Jesus is and uncovered His loveliness.

RESPONSE

A powerful and popular song gives voice to the power of speaking the name of Jesus over our circumstances, “I Speak Jesus.”

I just want to speak the name of Jesus

Over every heart and every mind

'Cause I know there is peace within your presence

I speak Jesus

- by Charity Gayle

Today, let’s listen to this song and speak the name of Jesus over your anxious heart and thoughts, over fear, anxiety, and depression, over your family, over every circumstance in your life. Strongholds will be broken; light will break forth.
