Day Two | January 9th

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

Then Jesus declared, “I AM the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty...”

John 6:35

PRAYER FOCUS - I AM the Bread of Life

For the next several days, we are going to look at seven “I AM” statements made by Jesus. When God revealed His name to Moses in Exodus, he told him to tell them “I AM” has sent you (Ex 3:14). “I AM” is the name of the LORD.

After Jesus fed the five thousand with just a few fish and loaves of bread, his popularity among the people grew greatly. Many of these new followers were only interested in seeing more miracles like the multiplying of the loaves and fish. It was then that Jesus made this statement, “I AM the Bread of Life.” He wanted them to recognize that just as physical bread sustains physical life, He provides spiritual sustenance for souls.

For many who participate in the Daniel Fast, yeast bread is one of the foods that is greatly missed. Denying ourselves yeast bread during this fast can be a reminder to fix our eyes upon Jesus, the true Bread of Life. According to the Ultimate Daniel Fast Website, “Daniel’s passion for the Lord caused him to hunger and thirst more for spiritual food than for physical food…”

RESPONSE

Jesus promises in this Scripture that whoever comes to Him will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Him will never be thirsty. When you are missing your favorite foods and your appetite is screaming that you are hungry for those things, be reminded that Jesus is the Bread of Life. He satisfies us more than anything ever has or ever will!
