Day Ten | January 17th

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

I AM the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

PRAYER FOCUS - I AM the Vine

The Guinness Book of Records has determined that the oldest grapevine in the world is located in Slovenia in Europe. Perhaps 400 years old, this grapevine has survived military invasions and fire! Amazingly, it is still producing grapes and now has its own personal vinedresser!

Jesus said, “I AM the vine; you are the branches.” Just as the sap in the grapevine flows into the branches of the vine, the life of Jesus flows into His branches. We are those branches! Jesus tells us that the branch that remains connected to the vine is the branch that produces much fruit. As long as the branch remains connected to the vine, fruit is produced as a natural process. Whenever a branch is cut off from the vine, the life of the vine is not flowing into the branch. If we desire to be fruitful in the Kingdom of God, we must stay connected to Jesus.

RESPONSE

Jesus is the vine, the supplier of life to the branches. How can we stay connected to the vine? Jesus tells us to abide in Him. This may look like studying His Word or spending time in prayer. Listening to worship music may bring your heart into a receptive attitude. Be aware that this is not a list of dos or don’ts; it is a posture of our heart. Choose one of the following to connect to Jesus for five intentional minutes today: Worship, His Word, or prayer. Watch how the life Jesus gives begins to bear fruit in your own life!
